Yes Roses will grow in clay soil, at least the two places I have lived with clay soil they did fine.  I have a Josephs coat rose doing great right now and it's been in this clay soil a while, this is its third summer here after purchasing it and I cut it way back last year and it's taller than me!
They will and very profusely, you will have more plant than you will know what to do with :).
