A "friend" planted some thyme, the herb, in a planter box next to my yard. It has now spread, in clumps, all over my 1 acre of property! The only thing that I can find to kill it is the killer spray that kills EVERYTHING, including the grass. Then I have a chick weed that fills in the patches that used to be lush, grees grass. I don't know how it is spreading so far away from the original plantings and how can I get rid of it once and for all? I thought it was all gone, at one point, and a week later, it was back! HELP! This has been going on for 10 years now. Even Bordines doesn't know what to do.

You can try digging out the individual areas but with such a large lawn that may be difficult and there is no guarantee that it won't come back.  If you continue to have this problem the only solution may be to resod the area.

Sorry for the bad news.
vinegar or salt but that also kills the grass but it the grass should return in a couple of weeks.

you could try weed & feed in a small area and see what happens......when you cut the grass use a grass catcher and trash the clipping..............don't mulch them.
Check the side of weed & feed...............see if it works in one area...................when you cut the grass use a bag and trash it.............it travels by the dried flowers.  Shame that you can cut it and sell it............make a business out of it...........a lot of people use that in soups & stews...........very expensive fresh in the store.
