I hear that if you put seven dust in the ground with the corn seed it would prevent worms.  Is this true? Also if this is done will it effect the fruit in the ears causing us to be eatting seven dust.

There are probably some better alternatives to using sevin dust as it is a pesticide and can cause problems for humans.  It will also kill many good insects as well as the harmful ones.  If you do use sevin dust be sure to carefully read the application instructions.

Using mineral oil as an alternative might be a good idea. Otherwise you can cut off the infected areas.
We amended the soil before we planted.  Turned in old grass, hay, leaves......old horse manure and lime.  ph for sweet corn is 5.5-7.5..........we just planted and they came up.  The corn gets dark brown tossles...........and you want worms on the very end..............that means the corn is sweet.
