Why are there ants on my cucumber plants?

Mid-size dark colored ants are all over the leaves on my cucumber plants.  Are they beneficial, or should I try to get rid of them?  I don't remember having this problem in previous years.

after the sun goes down have ready 1 teasp kitchen soap liquid & 1 qt water and spray................after it rains spray......................when you see them again spray.

you lso can add raw cornmeal in a can and push it half closed lay it sideways and they will go in and it.  they can not digest it.
