when using  detergent to kill aphids on a honeysuckle what ratio of detergent to water do I use?

A good strong spray from a nozzle on a hose is all you need to get rid of them.  the force of the water will get them off the vine and only about 1/3 of them will have a chance to climb back up.  I spray this way daily for about a week and they are all gone.  You don't need dish detergent.  In about six weeks if there is lots of new growth on the plant you'll find a new generation of aphids so you have to start over again.

Aphids like new tender growth and lots of it.  Using high nitrogen fertilizer instead of timed release fertilizer guarantees lots of new growth and lots of new aphids.  Stick to time release fertilizer or something that is low in nitrogen like 4-4-4.

Again, you are correct.  But let me ass this:  vegetable oil when rubbed at the base of the vine up to right around 7", will also deter aphids climbing ability.  Your answer is absolutely correct! -Birdy
