What is a creeping green growth on the ground, creeping fast!!

Flat green creeping growth on the earth near the edge of the lawn, growing into the dirt, not the lawn. Older parts have a sprout that grows up with a ball on it and spikes on the balls. They don't hurt, it all seems soft.

It's growing VERY fast and I fear it's not ok.

I water at night and wonder if this growth is aided by a wet ground.

?? Help!

Our local nursery closed so I can't take any to them; they closed becasue Home Depot killed their business. I went to Home Depot to buy some Oleander and the clerks had no idea what they were. ??????  I'm lost without my nursery, I need help with this growing thing. Thank you, Heather

sounds like devil spurs we called them week killer I just did my lawn had them dry one and step on it they do hurt like the the dickens
If in doublt, take it out.............sounds very invasive....................
