I HAVE MANY, MANY SMALL 1" TO 3" DIAMETER X 1/2" TO 1" DEEP HOLES IN MY YARD.  THE GRASS IS CUT WEEKLY AND IS USUALLY 2"-3" TALL.  SOMEONE SUGGESTED THAT SKUNKS WERE DOIMG THE DIGGIMG, LOOKING FOR GRUB, CUTWORMS.ETC.  tHE DIGGING IS DONE AT NIGHT, I'VE NEVER SEEN ANY ANIMALDOING THE DIGGING.   SO HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM?  DO I NEED TO TREAT THE WHOLE YARD FOR INSECTS AND GET RID OF THEM FIRST?

Only a trail cam is going to tell you the true facts but I think they are gophers.  They dig up the ground looking for grubs.  I would treat for grubs now and again in the spring and again in the fall.  Once the grubs are gone the animals will move on to someone elses ground to dig.  You can dig up a little dirt and if you see these white grubs, you know for sure.  We have big black crows that come and eat them.
Yes the skunks are digging for grubs. You must treat the area with a grub killer.

It is kind of late, the lawn should have been  treated in the hot part of the summer.

The lawn will recover easily if there isn't too much damage, ours did.
There is something new that Walmart had when I looked for something for night time animals............It is for outside battery powered utrasonic animal repeller, claims to repell deer, racoons, dogs, cats, geese & squirrels....it works with red flashing lights and we can't hear the sound.  says does not harm animals..............I just bought it on reduced to $15.00 plus tax.................I still would spray for grubs as they will turn into Japanee beetles.
shunks travel at night time and they can't see if you keep a light on.......................also they do not like smells........like chop up lemon & orange skins real fine use a blender to get it real small.......and use it in the garden..a little at a time.
