I just moved to a new home, there was a tree once where this nest is. There is a hole and 2 smaller holes. They are deep. There are numerous yellow jackets going in and out of the large hole, they are aggressive and I want to keep my pets safe. I have covered the holes but am afraid of using gas or any substance that might hurt both the lawn and the animals. I know there are several remedies out there, just wanted to get an opinion of what the safest thing to do would be. Thanks!

At 10 o'clock at night...........keep the pets inside...................get couple cans of raid.......................get on the lawn mower........spot it with a white flag.................drive by soak it................take off.....................do it again.............................do it again....................if you are afraid of getting stung or are allergic get someone else to do it at night time...............next morning...............pour very hot water into it and start putting small stones in the hole..................
shop vac the entrance hole. Fog the area with mosquito fogger to locate alternate entrances and drive hornets into vac.Thom
The Wasp Bomb in the garden dept works just fine. It sends out a thick spray from a fairly long distance so you don't have to be very close to the nest. However, I highly recommend spraying around dusk (not during the day when they are active). Ground wasps love old rotten tree stumps, unfortunately. The spray product will not harm the lawn (you are spraying in a hole) and pets leave it alone; they don't like the smell.
