how do I get rid of snails that are eating my plants

I noticed snails on most of my plants! Every time I have any opportunity I inspect all my plants on my outdoor patio, & most of the time, I pick them off & mash the snails! I hate to kill them, because  everything are just trying to survive people & every living thing on this earth!! But they're sure distroy my the beauty of my plants! I'm sure hoping someone will tell of some simple way to rid me of these little creatures. Hopefully, it's also inexpensive! angry

Use a cat food can or tuna can washed well and sink it below the dirt............fill it with beer.........they will go in and bye bye........dump that down a drain and refill with fresh stuff.
