Are they red ants or beetles?  Neither like soapy water...............when the sun goes down and the plants have cooled off mix up 2 tablespoons dawn & 1 qt water...........spray good, get under leaves..........if you see them again or it rains do it again.......................they will go somewhere else..............Happy summer.

My guess is you have lily beetles. They are difficult to get rid of.  If you don't have too many lilies you can inspect the leaves and kill them by squishing them wear gloves it's messy.  You should also look on the leaves for eggs. They could be on the underside or where the leaves meet the stem. They will look like dirt that has stuck to the plant that's because the cover themselves with their own excrement.  You can squish them with you fingers if you want.  They can cause a lot of damage in a short perion so as soon as you see holes appearing in your leaves then start treating them.  Also treat the ground as they don't stay on the plant.  Look in the soil fro beetles as well squash the or place them in a container of soapy water.  Treat the plants with insecticidal soap or make your own using dish soap (2 tbsp -1 qt water) and a bit of oil (1tsp).  If you have rhubarb you can make a tea with the leaves. Cut the leaves into smaller pieces and pkave them in boiling water let soak until water is cool the remove the leaves you can use this instead of reg water  with either of the above recipes. Soray ground aroubd plants as well. Rhubarb leaves are piosonous to pets and humans so be careful wah your hands after making tea or wear gloves.
