I am not certain what type of fig but planted last year in full sun, fertilized beginning of spring, no fruit last year or this thus far. What could be the issue, do  I need to have another to cross pollinate?

Fruiting fig trees have a long juvenile period compared to other fruit trees. Most figs will not produce a crop for the first four to five years, notes Rutgers University. If the fig is severely injured by over-pruning or an unusual frost, it may take longer to fruit for the first time.  Sorry no fruit because the tree is too young. -Birdy

Thank you so much for the input.  Now I will stop trying and just wait for the future harvest.

Most figs need to be 2 years old to produce fruit. Some take as long as 6 years to mature. You can't really do anything until it's old enough. Be sure your fertilizer doesn't have high amounts of nitrogen. You can add a little phosphorus to counteract it. Nitrogen will make it produce lots of nice foliage but no fruit.

I had beautful figs in Phila Pa, but I had 2 plants and they went wild over 8 ft tall when I sold the house.  We had some cold weather and I planted it close to the back porch in a corner and put 4 glass windows and filled it with leaves.  Had sun 3/4 of the day.  Delicious figs. My children could not eat them fast enough.  Two plants had so many figs that next year that I had to start washing and freezing them on a tray and then I put them into freezer bags.
