Is there a cage to surround a watermelon while growing.

I would like to cage some of my watermelons to keep the racoons from eating them?

Is there such a thing and where can I find them?

An inexpensive way is to buy a 50' roll of 2'x4' welded wire fence and fabricate with that. You can lay chaicken wire over that for smaller vermin.  If you need an idea of how to cut the fence to form a bow to place over the melons use a cardboard box as a template. Cut the wires in the middle of the little squares to leave a tab to tie with.

I usually make critter cages out of PVC tubing and fish net/ or chicken wire, none of these would work for these critters with oppossible thumbs. The PVC is too light and they would just lift it.  They will bite through chicken wire and of course, fish net.   The problem is either making them so heavy that the racoons cannot lift them or have them fastened to the ground.   I would suggest a small fence with secured cover made of pig wire.

racoons are very clever.....they use their hands & feet..........maybe you need an electric fence for night time.  Some farmers here in NE PA use them.....the only animal that it does not work for is the bears, they  just walk right thu it because of their thick fur they do not like it.  The racoons will rip chicken wire right off and or chew right thru it.
